Recommended Resources

Welcome to Prestantia Music Academy's Resources page. Here you will find a list of the brands, products and businesses that we recommend to our students and personally use ourselves.
In addition to the instrument-specific resources listed below all students should own a functional metronome to practice with. For a basic, no-frills metronome we recommend the Wittner MT50

Musical Instruments

Cordoba classical guitars-

We recommend Cordoba guitars to our classical guitar students. They produce great quality instruments for beginner/intermediate level
guitarists with decent finish and very pleasing tone production.
Yamaha steel string guitars-
Solid, well made, basic instruments for the beginner/intermediate steel string guitarist.
Washburn mandolins-
Washburn is a very old company that makes a variety of instruments but their mandolins in particular are a stand-out. Eric, himself,
    plays a Washburn mandolin.
Deering Goodtime banjos-
Deering Goodtime banjos are made in the USA with great quality materials. They are not as elegant in their finish as other instruments
in the same price range but their tone is far superior. Excellent banjos for Old Timey or Bluegrass.
John Walsh Bagpipes-
For many years now we have been recommending Walsh pipes. High quality, polypenco pipes with excellent, bright, lively tone which cost
significantly less than blackwood pipes. Made in Canada.

Piano recommendation-
There are many fine manufacturers of pianos, both past and present, that  are available both new and used.
Many of which would make a fine instrument for the practicing pianist. We recommend you visit Classic Pianos in Portland and begin a
relationship with their team of piano experts who will provide you with excellent counsel and information as you begin the search to find the
right piano for your family. They carry everything from world-class grand pianos that cost as much as a house, to bargain basement specials
that would make a great piano for the musician who just needs a good, solid instrument for home practice and study.
